Are you the first person in your family to go to university?

Doing anything for the first time can be daunting and going to university is no different. Add to that fact that you don’t know anyone else who can share their experiences with you, we understand why you may have reservations. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it. You just need to find an offer that is right for you.

At The Sheffield College, we offer a wide range of university level courses in a non-traditional setting within our college. Here are the benefits:

Smaller class sizes and 1-2-1 support

Due to the number of students that attend, traditional universities can be overwhelming places.

At The Sheffield College, our university level students benefit from smaller class sizes than at traditional universities. Our small and friendly atmosphere allows you to develop supportive relationships with our tutors who are industry experts, as you work towards achieving your goals.

Personal support

You won’t have to do this on your own.

Our Student Support Team, tutors and study assistants will be with you throughout your degree to offer you personal support that makes you time studying as easy as possible. That could be supporting you to find accommodation or childcare, offering disabled access and support, dealing with issues of a personal nature or advising you on tuition fees and finances.

Financial support

Talking of fees and finances, you will be eligible for a student loan through Student Loans Company for support with:

  • tuition fees
  • maintenance loan

Our tuition fees are around £3,000 less a year than traditional universities which means less debt to repay after you’ve graduated.

You may also be eligible for our HE Bursary scheme which will support you with essential course costs, such as equipment, trip costs and books. Click here to find out more.

Further your career

All of our courses are career driven which means they are designed to do everything they can to help you get the career you want after you graduate. Most of our courses include at least one of the following, to give you that little bit extra over other candidates in the future:

  1. Real work placements
  2. Live projects set by employers
  3. Mentoring
  4. Masterclasses from professionals
  5. Visits to the workplace
  6. Exhibiting work or delivering presentations
