To prove you’re not on your own with this, we’ve spoken to a few of our A Level students and asked them to give us a bit of an insight into their lockdown experience.

What A Levels are you studying, and what do you like most about them?
I’m currently studying English Literature, Sociology and History. I enjoy them all for different reasons, for example:

• I enjoy sociology because I like to debate with others and finding out what their opinions are on certain situations. I also like to find out how and why they differ from mine
• I like English because I like to read and formulate ideas and connections from contextual knowledge about society (early Victorian, Shakespearian, etc.) and how it can be shown in the book or poem
• I enjoy history as the course is very interesting and I enjoy learning about how different events have changed and shaped both our society and the world around us.

I mainly enjoy them all because they challenge me and enable me to learn new information and improve my essay writing skills.

How have you found working from home?
I've missed being at college and being able to interact with my friends and teachers. I find that being in an academic setting, I am able to learn and focus better. However, working from home has allowed me to work on my essays, homework and individual classwork to a better degree.

Despite how it’s not the same as having discussions in the classroom, Google Meet has allowed us to still carry on with our group discussions, which I’ve found really useful.

What have you been studying/working on whilst studying from home?  
I have started on my coursework for history and I have also been ordering my coursework books for both history and English.I have been doing families and households in sociology. And I am currently doing unseen poetry in English.

What are your next steps upon the completion of your A Levels?
To go on to university and do an LLB (Hons) in Law so that I can begin my route to becoming a Barrister and then eventually a Coroner.

Have you taken up any new hobbies whilst we have been in lockdown?
I have started doing a lot of work in my garden and have even started growing my own herbs. I have also been spending my spare time reading up on which universities are most likely to help me reach my goal of becoming a coroner. I have also found Netflix crime documentaries helpful for when I want to pass the time whilst also learning something new on a subject that I am interested in.
