Top Tips for applying to The Sheffield Sixth Form
FIND THE RIGHT QUALIFICATION FOR YOU
We have a wide range of qualifications available for you, from vocational study programmes to A Levels and Apprenticeships! With such a choice, it’s important that you decide on something that is right for you.
Each type of qualification has different features which will affect how and where you study. Take note of these as it’ll make a big difference to you:
Study programmes
- full-time study
- job-specific technical qualifications
- develop your skills in facilities that are the same as in the workplace
- career experience
Apprenticeships
- employed in a full-time job
- typically attend college one day a week to complete your qualification
- learn on the job
- earn a wage
A Levels
- full-time study
- study 3 or 4 subjects to tailor your learning to your career pathway
- exam and coursework assessments
- exclusive facilities in the city centre

If you’re unsure of your next steps when leaving school, please don’t worry! We have a dedicated, and award-winning, Careers Advice Team who are on hand to help you achieve your dream career by providing information, advice and guidance.
The Careers Advice Team are also on hand to advise you about any free training or extra qualifications that become available which could help you further your career.

We also have a fantastic Student Support Team, who are always on hand to help you with any questions, concerns, or problems that you might face whilst at college. APPLY ONLINE
After you have found the perfect programme for you, click on the qualification that you are interested in and hit the ‘click here to apply’ button.
You will then be directed to our application portal where you will need to create an account before applying - this will allow you to return to your application if you can’t finish it in one go and communicate with our Admissions Team.
Once you have your account you will then start the application process. You will be asked to fill in things such as your personal details, education history and qualifications. If you haven't got your results yet, don’t panic! Please enter your predicted grades instead. Don't forget to include your email address and phone number as our Admissions Team may need to contact you about your application.
Once you've entered your details hit send to submit your application!
WAIT FOR A RESPONSE
Once you’ve submitted your application, just sit back and relax! Our Admissions Team will send you an email to confirm we have received your application and from there we’ll start processing it. In busy periods, this can take a few days, so don’t panic if you don’t receive a message straight away.
We process all applications within 14 days of receiving them but if you have any concerns, please contact our Admissions Team via admissions@sheffcol.ac.uk.
YOU’LL RECEIVE AN OFFER
If you meet the entry requirements for your chosen study programme, we’ll make you an offer! We’ll arrange a time for a telephone interview where we’ll take a few more bits of information about you interests and what you hope to achieve. If an interview or audition is required, we’ll contact you and inform you of dates, timings, and locations.
You'll be able to choose a date and time that suits you best using the Admissions Portal. If you are unable to attend any of the available slots, please contact our Admissions Team.

ATTEND A SECTOR-BASED OPEN DAY
Before you start studying at The Sheffield College, you will have the opportunity to attend a sector-based Open Day. This is a great opportunity to get a real taste of what your study programme involves and what the college is like before enrolling. Our sector-based Open Days give you the chance to see what we have to offer for yourself and gain support in planning your route into the career you want. Dates for our sector-specific Open Days in 2022 are below:
Tuesday 1st February – Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing industries
Thursday 24th February – Hospitality, Travel, Health, Education and Care industries
Monday 14th March – Academic studies and Professional industries, and Inclusion
Wednesday 20th April – Animal Care, Land-based, Sport and Protective Services industries
Wednesday 27th April – Creative and Design industries
